Three Crowns House is situated off South Quay within walking distance of shops in the High Street and the station. The development consists of 32 flats with communal facilities and was completed in 1993. Facilities include a house manager and 24 hour emergency Careline system, residents' lounge and communal laundry. King's Lynn acquired the 'King's' by a charter of Henry VIII. It was previously known as Lun in Domesday when the town already had more than nine salt-houses becoming Bishops Lynn and finally King's Lynn after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century. The town was built on the east bank of the Great Ouse and the many period houses testify to its past prosperity as a successful port. Once a walled town only a part now remains together with the magnificent south gate built in 1520. Today the town continues to be the main commercial centre for the region with its wealth of historic buildings. The Guildhall, the largest surviving medieval guildhall in the country, is now a theatre and the King's Lynn Music Festival is well known. There are many interesting places to visit nearby not least Sandringham House about seven miles away.
