Princes Risborough is about seven miles south of Aylesbury and was mentioned in Domesday as Riseberge and had two mills. It derived its name from Risborough 'where brushwood grows' and Princes from the Black Prince. It has an attractive town centre with 18th century houses and the brick market house has arcades with a wooden cupola. The seventeenth century Manor House is now owned by the National Trust and Chequers is a little over a mile to the north-east.
The town has some good shopping and fast trains to London (Marylebone) take about 45 minutes. Monks Risborough to the north is about two miles away and can be walked via the Icknield Way
