Fairfield Lodge : Fairfield Lodge is a delightful development of retirement apartments set in landscaped grounds. The properties are centered around the old house built in 1798 and further extended in the 1930's. New buildings to complete the retirement development were finished in 1985. Altogether there are 58 apartments.

There is a resident manager, emergency alarm system, communal lounge, laundry, guest facilities and attractive gardens and grounds. Parking is to the west of the development. It is about half a mile to the shops in the Meads.

HISTORY

Eastbourne is mentioned in Domesday as having a mill, fishery and 16 salt-houses and no doubt there were salt workings on these coasts since prehistoric times.

The town expanded largely as a result of the Victorians and the fashion for sunny resorts in the nineteenth century. The many beautiful parks and gardens were laid out to absorb the influx of visitors and today they remain as a testament to the Victorians ingenuity for genteel town planning.

Eastbourne is a popular resort town on the south coast. The Downs from the west come to an abrupt end to the west of Eastbourne and it is the high white cliffs off Beachy Head for which Eastbourne is famous.
