Honour Court is situated off Preston Close close to shops in the centre of Ampthill. The development consists of 37 flats and bungalows and was completed in 1987. Facilities include a resident manager and emergency alarm service and gardens. Shops are within reasonable walking distance. Ampthill is first mentioned in Domesday as Ammetelle and is an attractive Georgian town with 17th century almshouses and 18th century inns. Ampthill Park House was built in 1694 by Lord Ashburnham and little is left of Houghton House, believed to be John Bunyan's 'House Beautiful' in Pilgrims Progress. In the 16th century Henry VIII spent a considerable amount of time at Ampthill Castle with his first wife, Katherine of Aragon. The town lies about six miles north-west of Luton. There is a good selection of shops including antique shops, speciality food shops, boutiques, supermarkets, several restaurants, butchers, bakers and grocers. Ampthill market takes place weekly every Thursday and additionally a separate monthly Farmers Market takes place on the last Saturday of each month.
