Ruabon Almshouses consists of five flats originally built in the 18th century and renovated in 1979. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service. Ruabon lies in an area long settled with bronze and iron age artefacts found locally. Gardden hill fort is thought to have been occupied until the Romans came in the first century AD. Both Wat's Dyke and Offa's Dyke pass nearby. The area was a significant employer in the 19th century with iron and coal workings, clay companies as well as chemical plants. The last colliery was closed in the late 20th century. Ruabon has a regular train service to Wrexham
