John Marler Cottages consists of four one-bedroom bungalows renovated in the 20th century. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service. Kelvedon is mentioned in Domesday as Chelleuadana and belonged to Westminster Abbey. It had two mills and lay on the site of a large Belgic village and Roman settlement. For much of the Middle Ages the village remained a small farming community and whilst Ferring and Inworth, hamlets to the north and south of the village are mentioned in Speed's Atlas, Kelvedon is not. The village eventually expanded in the late 19th century with the coming of the railways and is now by-passed by the main A12 to the east.
