Sweetbriar was built in 1987 by Manordock Limited and consists of 27 flats and cottages off North street just above the Frilford Road, the A415. The properties are set around landscaped courtyards with parking spaces within the development. Facilities : These include a resident manager and emergency alarm service, laundry and gardens. Local shops are within walking distance. Marcham is mentioned in Domesday as Mercham and had a mill, and a church. It was one of the manors of Abingdon Abbey and its name derives from 'enclosure or river meadow where smallage (wild celery) grows'. Today the church is mostly a 19th century rebuilding save for the tower but the mill on the southern parish boundary is partly ancient and still occupies the site of the Domesday Mill on the River Ock. The village also has a Baptist church and there is a regular bus service to the old market town of Abingdon which is about two miles to the west. Frilford Heath Golf Course is about a mile and a half away.
