St Johns Gardens consists of 16 one and two-bedroom flats built in 1988. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service. Woking was mentioned in Domesday as Wochinges and had a church and a mill. Its name derived from 'settlement of Woca's people'. The town is about six miles north of Guildford and expanded considerably in the nineteenth century with the coming of the railways. Today it is very much a residential town with a modern shopping centre. The old town on the River Wey is about two miles to the southeast and the Shah Jehan Mosque was founded in 1989.
