Chapelside consists of 32 one, two and three-bedroom bungalows built in 2020. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service. Ellel is just outside Lancaster to the east of the M6 with Hay Carr, an 18th century house, on the edge of the village. Lancaster was the county town of Lancashire until Preston became the administrative centre in the 19th century. It is set at the mouth of the River Lune on the north-west coast and its name derives from 'Roman fort on the River Lune'. The town grew up around its Norman castle and in the Middle Ages became an important port and in the 18th century a centre of trade with America. Eventually the Lune started to silt up and with the rise of Liverpool further south its maritime trade declined.
