Robinswood is situated off Engine Lane to the east of the Durham Road south of Gateshead. The development consists of 22 flats completed in 1985.

Gateshead lies on the southern bank of the River Tyne opposite Newcastle-upon-Tyne and there has been a settlement here since Roman times. When Edgar the Atheling was defeated by William 1st on Gateshead Fell in the 11th century the area was mostly forest. By the 14th century coal had been discovered and the landscape started to change and in the 18th century Hawks & Co had one of the biggest iron business in the north. The town expanded rapidly in the 19th century and is now guarded by the Angel of the North, one of the largest sculptures in the country.
