Archer House was built in 1986 and consists of ten rooms providing assisted living for the fit and able to combat loneliness and isolation by offering a community environment. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service, communal lounge, dining room, laundry, conservatory, guest facilities and garden. Billericay is about five miles east of Brentwood and probably derives its name from a medieval word Byllyrica meaning 'dyehouse or tanhouse'. At the time of Domesday Billericay is not mentioned as then it was considered to be part of Great Bursted which lies to the south. In the middle ages it is thought that Pilgrims would journey through the town and this might explain the number of inns in the town. In 1381 the Essex rebels were defeated by the King's forces so ending the Peasants Revolt. Billericay has good shops and the town's hall contains memorials to four people who sailed with the Pilgrim Fathers. There is a mainline railway station.
