St Albans was mentioned in Domesday and had a park for woodland beasts and a fishpond. The city was originally a key Roman settlement destroyed by Boadicea in the first century AD. To the south of the city in Chiswell Green are the world-renowned Gardens of the Rose - headquarters of the Royal National Rose Society.
