Pilrig Court : Pilrig Court is situated off Bonnington Road in Leith to the northeast of the city centre and consists of 40 flats and bungalows completed in 1984. Facilities : Facilities include a resident manager and alarm service and guest facilities. Edinburgh : Edinburgh sits on the the great black crag of Castle Rock high above the city and its name probably comes from 'Fortification at Eidyn'. There has been a settlement here for many years occupied at first by the British, then the Anglo-Saxons and finally the Scots. The city as we know it today largely developed in the late 18th century to the north of the Old Town with with new wide streets, crescents and circuses. The principal architect was James Craig but other architects such as William Playfair and Robert Adam of Bath fame were also involved. Princes Street marks the southern boundary of the New Town and is one of the most attractive shopping streets in Europe although many of its Georgian facades have disapperaed behind department store windows. The Royal Botanic Gardens at Leith Walk Walk cover over 70 acres and in 1995 both Old and New town became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
