St Josephs is a small development of ten close-care apartments completed in 2007. Facilities include estate management services. Danbury is mentioned in Domesday as Danengeberia and was originally a fortified Danish settlement. It is a large village in a beautiful area belonging to the National Trust. Originally a bishop's palace, Danbury Palace is set within Danbury Park, a former deer park which has many excellent walks with ornamental gardens and lakes as well as meadows and woodland. The church of St John the Bapist is Grade I listed and dates from the 13th century with memorial slabs and wooden effigies. Chelmsford is the county town of Essex and an old Saxon settlement first founded by the Romans in the first century AD who called it Caestaromagus'. In Moulsham south of the town centre the remains of a mansion were found and also the ruins of an octagonal temple. In Broomfield to the north of the town centre an important Anglo-Saxon burial ground was discovered.
