Sunrise of Sonning is situated off the Old Bath Road on the outskirts of the village and a short distance from the Thames. Sonning : Sonning is mentioned in Domesday as Soninges and belonged to the Bishop of Salisbury and had two mills and five fisheries. Its name probably derives from 'settlement of Sunna's people'. The 18th century arched bridge across the Thames is particularly attractive and there is an old mill and a church with a Saxon coffin lid. Deanery Gardens in the village is one of the finest works of the Arts and Crafts movement and was designed by Edwin Lutyens.
