The village of Puddletown lies in the valley of the River Piddle, surrounded by unspoilt Dorset countryside, and only nine miles from the sea near Weymouth. In the village there is a general store cum Post Office, together with a library and doctor's surgery. There are buses to Dorchester, Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth and there is a train service from Dorchester to London and Bristol.

To the southwest and either side of the Piddle is excellent walking country with a large expanse of open heath which stretches down towards Wareham.
