The award winning Tannery Court is the first Very Sheltered Housing development in Wales. Consisting of two and three bedroom retirement apartments, construction on the development is now complete. The developers are Stepnell Ltd., a family owned construction and property company established for over 100 years. The development is managed by Retirement Security Ltd.

The new Court offers a choice of 50 spacious apartments available to buy together with extensive communal facilities and services, landscaped gardens and a 24 hour staff presence.

In January 2010, Tannery Court won the gold award in the Best UK Housing-with-care Scheme 45-49 unit category at the inaugural EAC Housing for Older People Awards.

Facilities : To compliment the individual private apartments or bungalows, at every Court there are extensive communal facilities including a very comfortable lounge, a dining room and a meeting room and all Courts have a guest suite available for Owners’ visitors or prospective purchasers who may be considering a move to the Court. All Courts have attractive gardens and landscaped areas which are carefully maintained.

Staffing and services available are greater than in traditional sheltered housing. A Manager ensures the smooth administration of the Court and in addition, a team of Duty Managers operate a rota system , 24 hours a day. A larger team of Housekeeping Assistants provide one-and-a-half hours of domestic help to each single Owner or couple every week as well as keeping the communal areas clean and tidy.

At each Court, a comfortable dining room provides a substantial meal every day, usually at lunch time at a modest price for everyone who wishes to have it. Meals can be taken to Owners who are unwell. Help can be offered to provide other meals and snacks if required.

Abergele is a market town on the north coast of Wales and lies about eight miles east of Llandudno. Just to the north of the town is Pensarn famous for its sandy beach. A railway station also serves the resort. Its name is likely to derive from 'mouth of the River Gele' and the area has long been settled . The Romans had a trading centre here and in the 13th century Edward I is known to have stayed here on his way to suppress the revolt of Madog ap Llwelyn.
