Portland Court Mews consists of ten bungalows in a quiet cul-de-sac off Albert Street close to the old High Street in Mansfield Communications: Mansfield is about 12 miles north of Nottingham and 17 miles west from Newark-on-Trent. Chesterfield is about 12 miles and Ollerton nine miles. Junction 28 of the M1 is about six miles and fast trains to London (St Pancras) take just over two and a half hours. Mansfield was for many years the main industrial centre in the middle of the county surrounded by collieries. Before the fortunes made from coal Mansfield was an ancient market town by the River Maun and known to have had a Roman camp. Beside the Southwell Road can be found the 'Rock Houses' - cliff dwellings still occupied in the nineteenth century. For many years Mansfield was a small town in the middle of the forest and a plaque in Westgate marks the spot where the 'centre oak' was cut down in 1940. Today all that remains of Robin's Sherwood Forest lie to the south east of the town and to the north of Nottingham. Tenure: Leasehold General Information: Portland Court Mews is managed by Places for People 0845 850 9571.
