The 12 close care apartments in the Coach House emulate many of the attractive features of the main Victorian Nursing Home and are finished to a high standard. Staff, who are on duty 24 hours a day provide assistance and support to those who feel that they do not require the more concentrated care of a Residential Home and yet wish to be free of some of the more daily time consuming tasks. Oaken Holt is flanked by Wytham Woods and commands magnificent views of the Oxfordshire countryside and yet is only three miles from the city centre. The twenty three acre grounds afford a perfect setting for this imaginative concept which provides support and assisted living to a community who wish to retain their privacy and autonomy. Parklands sheltered accommodation at Oaken Holt is situated to the west of the nursing home and consists of 29 one and two bedroomed flats and bungalows designed to a high specification and essentially for independent living. Like the close care apartments all residents have the comfort of knowing that each property is fitted with emergency call bells and that the services of Oaken Holt are close by. Oxford is world famous as an ancient university town on the Thames. The city name means 'ford of the Oxen' and was strategically important throughout the middle ages. The city has numerous buildings of outstanding merit and remains Mathew Arnold's city of 'dreaming spires'. Two of the earliest buildings are the towers of St Michael and St George and the latter was part of the Norman castle and the remains of its motte can still be seen opposite Nuffield College. The colleges have a distinctly recognisable form being built around lawned quadrangles with halls and chapels. The Bodleian Library, one of the oldest and most famous in the world, was opened in 1602 and the Ashmolean in the 1840s. Today Oxford remains a magnate for academic endeavor and is visited from all over the world. The Cherwell punts are much sought after in the summer by students and visitors alike and the city has many fine restaurants and inns.
