Annett House was built in 1983 and renovated in 1991. There are ten studios, all unfurnished, for rent. Facilities include a House Manager, communal lounge/dining room, conservatory, and attractive gardens. Social activities include weekly coffee mornings, monthly visits to or from other Abbeyfield retirement properties and monthly C of E church services. Two meals are provided each day. Cats are welcome. Berkhamsted is a very popular market town and it was here that William the Conqueror took the throne of England from the assembled Saxon nobles in 1066. Little now remains of the Norman castle on the banks of the River Bulbourne where Chaucer, Thomas Becket and the entire court of Henry VIII stayed at different times. Today communications remain good with the M25 (Junction 20) about 11 miles away and the Grand Union Canal passes through the town. Berkhamsted Station is just off the town centre.
