Newsteads Close is situated off Newsteads Drive close to local shops to the northwest of Monkseaton. The development consists of 24 bungalows and flats completed in 1985.

Facilities include a resident manager and alarm service.

Whitely Bay is just north of Tynemouth on the coast and has a well known sandy beach from St Marys Island in the north to Cullercoats in the south. At low tide it is possible to walk across a causeway to St Marys Island where there are a few houses and a lighthouse. As the old industries of coal mining and limestone quarrying declined Whitley became popular as a seaside resort in the late 19th century.
