Solihull is about nine miles southeast of Birmingham and in the 17th century century was not that much smaller than Britain's second city today. It was once part of Warwickshire and on an important coaching route south to Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon. The town grew to prosperity in the middle ages and is known for its many timber framed Tudor style houses. The George dates from the 16th century and on the opposite side of the High Street is The Manor House dating from the end of the 15th century. The town has a good number of parks and open spaces and has a good range of shops.

Solihull lies just within the M42 and Birmingham Airport and the National Exhibition Centre are both to the north off Junction 6. The Grand Union Canal runs through the town and there are several golf courses nearby.
