Orchard Court  is situated off Orchard Road which leads to shops in the High Street. The development was built by Secure Retirement Plc and consists of 19 flats completed in 1992.

Street was known as Strate in Domesday and had four oxen. Its name probably derives from 'place on or near a Roman road'. The town lies about 11 miles east of Bridgewater south-west of Glastonbury and remained a village until the beginning of the 19th century when Clark's shoe firm began manufacturing slipper linings. It is now the biggest shoe manufacturer in England and the towns major employer. The towns' rise to prominence can be traced in the Shoe Museum in the High Street. The museum has collections of shoes from Roman times to the present day.
