HISTORY

Palace Gate is built on the site of Palace Farm, probably the site of a royal manor at least from shortly before 1066. Henry I spent Easter here before leaving for Normandy in 1116. All that now remains of the Palace are some stones with carved heads in the adjacent Farm House.
