Westham : Westham lies just outside Pevensey Castle. The name Pevensey probably derives from the Saxon 'Pefe Ie' meaning Pefe's Island. The castle was built by the Romans on a small island known as Anderida in the 3rd century when the sea would have lapped its walls. It was occupied by the Saxons in the 5th century and due to its position saw action through much of the middle ages. There is a regular train service to Hastings and Eastbourne.
