Rustington was known as Rustinton in the 12th century and probably derived its name from ' Estate of a man called Rusta'. It lies just to the east of Littlehampton and the old village centre has several 17th and 18th century flint-walled cottages many of which are thatched. The medieval church of St Peter and St Paul is nearby and has a fine tower. The village itself has no sea-front but various lanes lead down to it. The large shopping centre is to the east off 'The Street' and Angmering Station is a little over a mile away. The village is famous for the 'Stonefield' boulder in the high street brought here by the last Ice Age.
