Adams Way is situated off Anstey Road to the east of the town centre and consists of 48 flats set around a garden square. Shops are within a reasonable walking distance. Facilities include a resident manager and emergency alarm service, communal lounge, and attractive gardens. Alton : 'Beautifully situated in a rich and pleasant part of the country, highly fertile, moderately wooded and enlivened and refreshed by a fine stream of water'. This was how Alton was described in Mudie's History of Hampshire, and although many years have passed, the town still retains its original charm and history. Today Alton is a bustling centre no longer reliant on the old industries of cloth making and brewing. There are many fine buildings dating from the town's days as a coaching route and attractive parks. Alton also has a good range of speciality shops and supermarkets. The town has a mainline railway station and Waterloo can be reached in 62 minutes. Saxon Wessex was predominantly farming country as it is today and the area is famed for its rolling countryside. Local places of interest include the Devil‘s Punch Bowl and there are excellent walks at Frensham Ponds. The South Downs and Salisbury Plain are within easy reach. Racing is at Ascot, Newbury and Goodwood and there is fishing on the rivers Alre, Test and Itchen. Hunting is with the Hampshire Hunt with kennels at Ropley. Theatres within easy reach are the Redgrave at Farnham, the Theatre Royal at Winchester and the Chichester Festival Theatre. At nearby Lasham there is an International Gliding Centre, and the Alton Golf Club is only two miles away.
