Lockbridge Court is located on the river between Maidenhead Bridge and Boulters Lock on the Cliveden Reach of the Thames. The development was built by Croudace in 1990 and consists of thirty-eight apartments in two buildings linked by a central courtyard area with paved walkways. There is frontage providing boat facilities on a small creek which leads directly into the mainstream of the Thames. Facilities include estate management services, frontage to a small creek and Tunstall Telecom security system linked to a central control with 24 hour emergency cover. Maidenhead was known as Elentone at the time of Domesday and derived its name from 'landing-place of the maidens'. Its seven arch bridge testifies to the town's importance on the staging route to London in the eighteenth century. Its fortunes have long been associated with the river and its attractions and boating in the latter half of the nineteenth century became very popular. Turner's painting 'Rain, Steam and Speed' features the nineteenth century railway bridge designed by Brunel. Today the town has some good shopping with library, several medical centres, sports halls and community centres. Maidenhaed Thicket to the west of Maidenhead is ancient woodland now managed by the National Trust.
