Fairlands is an attractive scheme in landscaped gardens and grounds a short level walk to the village centre. The original house was built mostly two hundred years ago though the barns and outbuildings which are incorporated in the scheme appear to be much earlier than this. The development is a mixture of cottages, flats and bungalows in the grounds of Fairlands House and many of the homes are conversions from the original barns and other outbuildings. Interspersed with these are various newly built homes designed to blend with the existing Somerset stone walling and clay pantile roofs.

There are three approaches to Fairlands. There is pedestrian access into Union Street and another pedestrian  access via Froglands Lane past the original Fairlands House and into Church Street. Access by car is best via Union Street, Redcliffe Street, Penn Road and Millbourne Road.

?Cheddar lies at the southern edge of the Mendip Hills close to the Somerset Levels and at the foot of the famous Cheddar Gorge. The historic city of Wells is eight miles away and the seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare about ten miles. It is a large village with a population of in excess of 4000 with a good range of shops, banks, opticians and dentists and post office, library, swimming pool, health centre and supermarket.
