Websters Yard was developed by Russell Farmer Limited in 1989 and consists of 62 two flats and houses immediately behind the High Street. Pedestrian access is via wrought iron gates to the high street so shops are literally on the doorstep. The name Webster commemorates Kendal‘s most distinguished architects - Francis Webster and his son George. In 1788 Francis Webster joined a local mason and the practice eventually designed many of the fine buildings you see in Kendal today. Facilities include a resident house manager and emergency alarm service, lift, and garden. Kendal is the main town south of the Lakes and sits in the Kent valley on the edge of the Lake District National Park. To the east is the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The river Kent runs through the middle of the town between the A6 and A650 and there are many lovely walks. To the south of the river and about a mile from the town centre is the site of the Roman fort of Alauna. There are many fine eighteenth century buildings and Catherine Parr, who survived Henry VIII, was born in the twelth century castle nearby. Sizerth Castle with its beautiful gardens is just three miles to the south and Levens Hall with its world famous topiary a further two miles on.
