Homesmith House : Homesmith House is situated off St Mary's Road close to the station and shops in the High Street. The development consists of 75 flats and was completed in 1988. Facilities : These include a house manager and 24 hour emergency Careline system, lift, residents' lounge, communal laundry, and two guest suites. Evesham : Evesham has kept its name since the 11th century and in Domesday is mentioned as having a Church, an Abbey and a mill. It is an old market town lying in a bend of the River Avon and probably derives its name from 'Eof's land in a river-bend'. Its Benedictine Abbey was once one of the largest in the country eventually destroyed with the Dissolution of the Monasteries. All that remains is Lichfield's tower. In 1265 Edward I defeated Simon de Montfort to secure his crown. There are several interesting old buildings including the half-timbered Round House in the market place. In the Abbey gardens are two churches, All Saints and St Nicholas and the 14th century Almonry is now a local history museum. The surrounding area was renowned for its productive fruit trees and fresh vegetables though this has declined somewhat in recent years. The mainline railway station is to the north of the town.
