Millers Court is situated off Hope West Street within walking distance of shops and consists of 59 flats completed in 1988. Facilities include a resident manager and emergency alarm service, lift, communal lounge, laundry and guest facilities. Macclesfield has a large entry in Domesday Book and belonged to Edwin, the Saxon Earl of Chester and already had a mill. The town lies about 15 miles south of Manchester on a steep escarpment above the River Bolin and looking east towards the Pennines. Its name probably derives from 'Marcel's open country' though the hilltop church of St Michael and All Angels, founded by Edward 1 and his queen, Eleanor, is at the top of 108 steps. In the 18th century Macclesfield became a silk manufacturing centre and the Brocklehurst museum in West Street records the towns development. There are many steep streets and fine 18th century houses testifing to the towns' prosperity in the industrial age. Immediately to the east of the town is the Peak District National Park now encompassing Macclesfield Forest, one od medieval England's great hunting reserves.
