Glebelands is situated off Rectory Fields and was built by Ellis Homes Limited in 1988. Altogether there are 35 two-bedroom cottages, flats and bungalows set around courtyard areas and landscaped gardens. Facilities include a visiting manger and emergency alarm service, gardens and grounds. Cranbrook was known as Cranebroca in the 11th century and probably derived its name from 'Brook frequented by cranes or herons'. In the 13th century the town was granted a charter to hold a market and in the next century became famous for its cloth making. Elizabeth I is reputed to have walked along a mile-long piece of Cranbrook Grey and by then 'Cranbrooke' was a busy commercial centre and according to Speed one of the largest towns in the county.
