HISTORY
Farnham was given to the Church in 688 by King Ceadwalla and is recorded in Domesday as being held by the Bishop of Winchester. The Norman Castle was the fortress home of the Bishops for 800 years.
Farnham's early wealth came from wool but by the 17th century it had the largest corn market in southern England. The rising prosperity of the 18th century was due to the hop trade for which the town became famous.
