Market Drayton is an attractive old town just above the River Tern and immediately west of the Shropshire Union Canal. It is famous for being where Clive of India was born and has a fine fourteenth century church the tower of which Lord Clive climbed when a boy. He is buried nearby at Moreton Say. There are many half-timbered and Georgian houses lining the streets amongst the shops and a market is still held every Wednesday.
