Headboune Worthy House was founded by Wing Commander & Mrs Lywood when they bought Headbourne Worthy House as a family house in the mid 1960's. They converted parts of the main house into self contained flats and developed the retirement estate from 1968 onwards. Today it consists of 32 bungalows, 11 flats, three flats in the main house and three two storey properties set in ten acres of grounds. The Dower House Nursing Home was built within the grounds in 1989 and is owned and managed by Mrs Lywood.

Facilities include a non-resident manager and emergency alarm system, community room, guest facilities and extensive gardens. There are coffee mornings and other social gatherings including craft sessions. Croquet is played on the lawn in the summer. Ample parking and there is a post box.
