Homewell House was completed in 1987 and consists of 40 flats off The Moors which runs into Mill Street and is close to the shops in the High Street. Facilities include a visiting manager and emergency alarm service, residents' lounge, guest facilities and laundry. Shops and Kidlington town centre are within walking distance. Kidlington is mentioned in Domesday as Chedelintone and had a mill and derived its name from 'Estate associated with a man called Cydela'. It was quite a a large centre by the sixteenth century with the Cherwell on its eastern boundary and lies about five miles due north of Oxford. Today it has shops and good leisure facilities being close to two golf courses and an airport. The A34 which connects with the M40 at Junction 9 crosses just to the south of the town. Oxford itself is world famous as an ancient university town on the Thames. The city name means 'ford of the Oxen' and was strategically important throughout the middle ages. The city has numerous buildings of outstanding merit and remains Mathew Arnold's city of 'dreaming spires'.
