Facilities : These include a house manager and 24 hour emergency Careline system, lift, residents' lounge, communal laundry, guest facilities and garden. Grange-over-Sands : Grange-over-Sands is a seaside resort overlooking an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Kent estuary on the north side of Morecombe Bay and about ten miles southwest of Kendall. Its name is likely to come from 'outlying farm belonging to a religious house and the affix meaning 'across the sands of Morecombe Bay'. In fact the village belonged to Cartmel Priory which was built in the 12th century a mile inland and its church survived the Dissolution and now has some of the finest examples of 17th century wood carvings in the country. The town grew in the 16th and 17th centuries on the thriving coastal trade in coal and its status secured with the coming of the railways. In Victorian times it became well known as a retirement resort with its mile long promenade, gardens and parks. Today the town is a prosperous tourist centre with many facilities though bathing is not chief among them due to the local currents and swift moving tides. There is a good selection of shops, inns and restaurants and beautiful countryside in which to walk. From Main Street and Strand Court there are magnificent views across the estuary.
