Ferndale Court was built by Trencherwood in 1986 and consists of fifty-six flats off Station Road and close to the High Street. Facilities include a resident manager and emergency alarm service, residents' lounge, guest facilities, covered electric scooter charging station, car park and gardens. It is a short walk to the shops. Thatcham in the Kennet valley is one of Berkshire‘s oldest settlements with finds from the Stone Age and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It lies about four miles west of Woolhampton and in the seventeenth century both settlements were about the same size. Its name derives from either a 'thatched homestead' or 'river-meadow where thatching materials are obtained' and markets have been held here since the reign of Henry I. The town has recently expanded quite considerably with new ring roads to the north beyond which is the very attractive countryside of the 'Buckleburys'. The market square retains its original form with some fine buildings and a selection of shops. Today Thatcham is in a popular residential area with easy access to a range of superstores and leisure facilities in the town and countryside.
