Dr Blands Almshouses consists of four one-bedroom houses built in the early part of the 20th century. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service. Sandiacre is about seven miles west of Nottingham on the Erewash Canal and was mentioned in Domesday with a church and a mill. Springfield Mill Apartments in the town centre was also once a lace mill. The 11th century Norman Church, St Giles, is a Grade II listed building and was restored in the 19th century. Nottingham was mentioned in Domesday as Snotinge and its imposing castle on a high sandstone ridge is now a museum. The town became famous for its connections with Sherwood Forest to the north in the early 13th century and later for lace and the old Lace Market still survives in the town's centre. The town has several museums and four miles east is the Holme Pierepoint Hall, a Tudor manor house with a fine collection of English oak furniture.
