Daubeny Almshouses consist of six one-bedroom flats built in the early 19th century. Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service. Trowbridge is the county town of Wiltshire and lies about ten miles west of Devizes and about the same distance south-east of Bath. It was known as Straburg in Domesday and had a mill on the river. It is thought that the town is named after 'trunk-tree bridge' referring to a bridge over the River Biss. The Kennet and Avon canal runs to the north-east of the town on its way to Devizes. The town became prosperous in the Middle Ages through the cloth industry and has a number of 18th century houses and an attractive centre.
