Wimborne Minster is mentioned in Domesday as Winburne and Ehelred, King of the West Saxons and brother of Alfred the Great is thought to be buried here. In the 17th century Wimborne was one of Dorset's four most important towns and its famous Minster housed one of the oldest public libraries in England.
