Charters Village has now been launched. Our village was officially unveiled at a three day event early in February 2013 with interest high from the outset. A number of properties were reserved during the launch which also attracted professionals, business owners and neighbours. Meanwhile building work is continuing at the village, on Felcourt Road, on the northern fringes of East Grinstead. The six chalet bungalows and Fonteyn House, a building with 22 apartments, are well underway. Work is also being done to extend and refurbish the manor house, Charters Towers, which sits at the centre of the village. This will become the community’s clubhouse and facilities.

Charters Towers has been part of the area’s landscape for around 100 years. The building was the centrepiece of the world-renowned dance and drama school, the Bush Davies School, for much of the last century. During that time, the school’s theatre played host to such names as Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev. After its closure the site was used as offices for a security firm. The old classrooms and the once grand theatre fell into disrepair and have since been removed. Many of the original features in Charters Towers are being retained and will become part of the fabric of the new community’s clubhouse. The parkland feel of the site will also remain. The village pond will be restored and the established trees and shrubs will provide the backdrop for further landscaping.
