Saltdean is situated just below the Sussex Downs on the south coast to the east of Rottingdean with chalk cliffs overlooking the channel. It was open farmland until the early 20th century when land was sold for housing development. Several buildings are today architecturally interesting having been influenced by European trends in the 1930s.
Brighton to the west is famous not only for its Pavilion but also as one of the most exciting seaside resorts in the country.
