Forest Row is an attractive small town above the River Medway to the north of Ashdown Forest and about three miles from East Grinstead. The forest figured prominently in Speed's seventeenth century map of Sussex and he lamented the devastation of the area for the iron industry though much survived and there are still excellent walks to be taken in the forest and villages to be explored. The area has many interesting houses to visit and there are two golf courses nearby.
