Marlborough is an historic market town well known for its broad High Street of timber framed buildings and The Green with its period town houses built on the site of the original Saxon village. Much of the area is protected as being of outstanding historical or natural interest including the famous neolithic Stone Circle at Avebury, Silbury Hill, the Long Barrow at West Kennet, Littlecote House and the Kennet and Avon Rivers.
