Southend-on-Sea: Southend-on-Sea is a seaside resort created in the early nineteenth century and which soon became one of the most popular holiday towns in th country. It is situated on the north bank of the Thames and from here there is a seafront walk all the way to Shoeburynes three miles to the east. Southend is now a major residential and commercial town with numerous facilities and a seafront full of cafes, stalls and shops.

Two Tree island to the west is the site of a national nature reserve and Prittlwell Priory, founded in the twelth century, is now a museum surrounded by parkland to the north of the town centre. Southend has the longest pier in the world with a minature railway and is popular with fishermen. At low tide the sea goes out for more than a mile.
