Calstock: Calstock is a large village on the River Tamar about ten miles southwest of Tavistock. In the middle ages it was a mining centre and in the 19th century Calstock prospered further with the copper industry and the river became an important highway for the transport of goods. Nearby Cotehele is a famous Tudor House now owned by the National Trust with grounds stretching down to the river.
