Bembridge is an attractive small town about five miles southeast of Ryde with a bay that provides good natural anchorage. The town has the islands' only surviving windmill which dates from 1700 and contains much of its original machinery. The National Trust owns areas of gorse and open grassland with over 260 species of plants. Palmerston's Follies are just offshore.
