Hexham is an ancient market town on the River Tyne below Warden Rocks where the river divides into the south and north Tyne. The river has served the town well and in the 18th century the town was a major glove making centre. Today it is by-passed by the A69 to the north and the old Corbridge road runs parallel to the south along the valley.
